I think the big advantageof a MySQL database is being able to install the webring system from your browser?
I do not know if anyone else has tried 'PHP My Ring', but it is certainly easy to instal....
Maybe it is the PHP and not the MySQL database that makes this easy, but then I do not know much about either...
Another advantage might be upgrading to the latest version while retaining all your customizations?
Currently most Ringlink systems do not upgrade to the latest version, because system managers have made extensive customizations to more than just those possible in the html.pm files, and are scared silly that if they upgrade they'll screw everything up, or they have just simply forgotten what files it is that they had customized previously........?

Pete
impression that a typical web hosting account nowadays includes MySQL.
Of course, there is always a possibility to make data storage in a
MySQL database an *option* besides the current method.
